Topics include nutritional guidelines, weaning, oral health, and the benefits of physical activity. You will develop skills in carrying out respectful care routines, administering medication, and responding to accidents and emergencies, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for children.

This module focuses on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework and the principles of an effective early years curriculum. You will explore pedagogical approaches like play, direct teaching, and adult modelling. The unit teaches you how to plan and sequence learning, create enabling environments both indoors and outdoors, and adapt teaching to suit children's different starting points and interests.

This unit covers the importance of formative assessment in understanding children's progress and planning next steps. You will learn about different assessment methods, the observation, assessment, and planning cycle, and the key stages of assessment such as the progress check at age two. You will summarise theories of play from key thinkers and understand the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. You will learn about different types of play, the benefits of outdoor play, and how to plan, lead, and evaluate play experiences that support children's developmental stage, needs, and interests.

This unit highlights the importance of developing and maintaining strong relationships with parents, carers, colleagues, and other professionals. You will learn about the benefits of parent/carer engagement and how to build effective partnerships. The module also covers working with multi-agency teams, understanding the roles of other professionals, and how to act as an advocate for children, especially during transitions and significant life events.
